JENS’ TOP PICKS
Every month Portalis owner Jens Strecker picks 8-12 wines that he thinks are outstanding … for any reason he chooses. Here are his June Picks — made with Father’s Day and early summer in mind.
Charles de Cazanove Champagne Rosé • Champagne, France • Reg $36.99 | Mixed Case $29.59
In our wildest dreams, we didn't think we'd have a Champagne this summer on the shelf for this price! Planning an event this summer where you're having a toast to something special? Consider this Champagne:
Blend of Pinot Noir 41%, Pinot Meunier 36%, Chardonnay 25%. Winery notes: a pleasant tint, the colour is a dazzling pink. Nose: a rich and very expressive nose of red fruits (blackberry and cherry). Palate: A gourmet and well-structured palate with a fruity final impression on the mouth. A perfect Champagne for a delightful aperitif or with a fresh and vanilla dessert with seasonal fruits.
Gönc 2025 Anna Rosé • Štajerska, Slovenia • Reg $23.99 | Mixed Case $19.19.
Blend = Zametna Crnina & Pinot Noir. Unripe peach, apricot, cantaloupe, herbs. Absolutely stunning nose!! Flavors add in all kinds of citrus, orange zest. Fresh!! This wine several vintages ago was “funky”. No more. Now it’s well-balance — fruit & acid are in check.
Couvent des Jacobines 2020 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé • Bordeaux, France • Reg $49.99 | Mixed Case $39.99
In the Jean-Joinaud family since 1902. 10.7 hectares of Grand Cru Classé-Saint-Émilion-Grand Cru with plots from 10-55 years. Production = 2,400 cases. Blend: 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Certified organic. Aging: Barreled in December 2020, exclusively French oak barrels 225 liters from Allier and Bertranges. 12 to 15 months ageing, with 45% new barrels.
Tasting notes: The color is deep, with a black fruit bouquet, very floral and spicy. The cabernet franc and the petit verdot are the 'stars' of this vintage at Couvent - ultra expressive, with a tannic density that expanded significantly during the ageing. The finale is long, iodine and salivating, a trademark of Couvent wines. We estimate the ageing potential to be beyond 2050, with a drinking window starting in 2026-2028. –winery notes.
Klados 2024 The Hunter Kotsifali • Crete, Greece • Reg $21.99 | Mixed Case $17.59
100% Kotsifali. Light, ruby red in color. Fruity aromas of cherry, strawberry, sour cherry and dried flowers. Taste: Round and fruity mouth with a perfect balance of alcohol, acidity and tannins. Serve slightly chilled in summer.

Blend of Roriz, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Cão, Touriga National. Nose = spice, herbs, red & black plums. Kind of fresh. Beautiful nose. Palate adds in blackberry with soft orange zest on the finish. That’s the acidity. Such a fun wine. Great spring sipper. Great with dinner. We enjoyed it with pork meatballs and kale salad. Would be good with salmon, chicken, pork chops, hamburgers. A flexible food wine!
Isenhower 2023 I-Label Viognier • Columbia Valley, Washington • Reg $21.99 | Mixed Case $17.59
100% Viognier. Floral nose with apricot & peach. Flavors add in a graham cracker note, jasmine & wet stone. Finishes with a trace of green tea (so soft tannins.... dry). Medium-bodied. Fabulous wine... any time of year!

Drink now to 2 years. Truly great now. Don’t wait too long.
Yalumba 2023 Y Series Shiraz-Viognier • South Australia • Reg $14.99 | Mixed Case $11.99
